| Aspect in the English Language
With the help of the notion of aspect the speaker of English can point out his specific view on a certain situation. The simple and the progressive form differ from each other due to their viewing frames. The simple form is marked by a maximal viewing frame. This means that there is no restriction when viewing a scene. In contrast to that the progressive form is marked by a restricted view on a scene for example: the progressive form can express the execution of a plan but not the result. The simple present expresses amongst others states like lasting states, habitual states, and general truths, whereas the progressive expresses temporary states.
